I feel that there is a moment when the dark of winter meets the first touch of spring light, awakening a magic within all us. This painting, to me, encompasses that exact moment. With the ultramarine blue blending into the violet blue, creating the dark around the outside and then bringing a focal point to the center. This is done to create the feelings of opening your eyes for the first time after a long hibernation. With the background pulling the viewer to the center of the piece, you are met with the exact moment where winter greets spring and for that brief moment in time they become one. The winter is represented by the midnight blue base for the dark and depth that comes with it, while the spring is represented by the bright aqua bringing the feeling of rebirth. Both are coalesced and accented by the same coral and gold because each season is beautiful in its own way. Without winter there would never be spring or growth.
This piece is named after the Celtic bear goddess. Which is fitting because while looking at the piece, it is as if you are looking out of a cave and awakening to the revival of life and new adventures. In life you can never develop and grow without going through dark times or without change. Besides bringing happiness and beauty, I hope this piece reminds the viewer to fully live and thrive.
